Out of touch

Sorry I've been kind of lazy with this for the past month, but it's been busy. I've been finishing up my sophomore year of high school, been in the thick of performance season (for instance, one parade yesterday and another one the day before that, and another one the weekend before that and another one the weekend before that), and I'm getting ready to leave for Compass a week from the day after tomorrow. My older brother's graduation is this Saturday, and it's just generally been hectic.
I want to share (yet another) song, but the embed isn't working, so here's the link.
Shine Like The Stars
I don't know whether I'll be able to get back on between now and when I leave, so if not, I'll be out of touch until late July. If this is the case, have a wonderful month.

Wow that must be embarassing

Something else happened on senior night that I previously neglected to mention. One young man was up at the mike, and other people were going up to say goodbye, tell stories, etc., and his mom went up there and started talking about how much she loved him and how proud of him she was and all that other momish stuff, and she started getting teary and all emotional, and I was sitting there thinking, Wow, I'm so sorry for that guy. He must be so embarassed.
The good news? My mom promises never to do that to me.

Speaking of sweet...

I was at another muster yesterday, and my corps was second to perform. (We were so underhanded it was five fifers and a drummer.) So we were standing in the chute waiting to go on stand, and the host corps was performing. At a break in their songs, one of the fifers, a young man, pulled another fifer, a young woman forward. The announcer said, "Why, I believe that young man is proposing to that young lady."
The guy went down on one knee in front of everyone at the muster (who was watching instead of wandering around the field), and proposed to the other fifer. In uniform. The young lady nodded like crazy, then the two of them rejoined the ranks of the fifers, and the corps finished their performance and left the field.

Senior Night '10

Friday night was Senior Night at youth group, and we said goodbye to our graduating Class of '10, including some dear friends of mine. It was emotional, and for a few, including a young woman who has been like a big sister to me, people were queuing up to speak for them and say goodbye. There were a few really sweet moments:
  • The young woman mentioned above, saying goodbye to her also-graduating ex-boyfriend. They obviously still care about each other as friends.
  • A middle-schooler getting up to talk about his graduating big brother, and telling us, "I compare everyone to him, and no one stands a chance." This statement was followed by a big hug.
  • We all signed a T-shirt for someone who's "leaving" though not getting a HS diploma. This young man suffered a serious brain injury a bit more than a year ago, and we have been trying to support him as best as possible. His attitude through recovery such as it has been has been completely amazing, because of his faith and strength to deal with the situation.
All the stories were sweet, actually. We are going to miss our seniors immensely.

Too-smart kid, not smart enough.

This morning at kindergarten, one little boy had been playing rowdily or something, and he was told to go put his head down at a table. No playing or anything until he was told. He started rummaging in a container of toy dinosaurs, and I went over and told him to stop. "Put it all the way up there." he said, pointing to the top of the shelf.
"Why?"
"So I can't reach it."
"Nuh-uh. Just stop. You're in charge of your own behavior, not me."
"Can I go do a lab?"
"Not until Ms. N says so."
"I have Chuck E. Cheese tokens. If you let me go do a lab, I'll give you one." I managed somehow not to laugh, and almost let him off for creative thinking, but didn't.
